NPR wants same-sex marriage ad pulledNational Public Radio is demanding that the Stand for Marriage Maine group stop using its content in television ads supporting a people’s veto of a new same-sex marriage law. Content from an NPR story was used in Stand for Marriage Maine’s The Sept. 13, 2004 story, titled “Massachsuetts Schools Grapple with Including Gay & Lesbian Relationships in Sex Education,” was part of an All Things Considered program, according to Dana Davis Rehm, NPR’s senior vice president for marketing, communications, and external relations. “NPR did not license use of this story or its content, and would certainly not have licensed or permitted it if we had been asked,” Rehm said in a statement. “NPR is a highly respected news organization and does not allow its content to be used by political or advocacy groups. Such use is harmful to the integrity and independence of NPR. NPR does allow – even encourage -- personal, non-commercial use of our content, so long as it is not modified, and not used in a manner that suggests NPR promotes or endorses a cause, idea, Web site, product or service. The use made by Stand for Marriage Maine violated all of these terms.” Stand for Marriage Maine spokesman Scott Fish said today the group has requested the specific complaint from NPR. “Once we’ve had a chance to digest it, we will issue a response,” said Fish. Rehm said NPR has sent a “take down notice” to YouTube, which was broadcasting a video of the commercial, and to “hotdaddy,” the company that was serving up the video. And this afternoon, Rehm said, NPR sent a cease and desist notice to the ad agency that produced an ad, and to Stand for Marriage Maine, with the expectation that “any use of NPR content in this manner will stop immediately.” Bookmark/Search this post with:

Oh, NPR wants the ad pulled, does it?
Well, I'd like my taxpayer dollars "pulled" from NPR. Let them make it on their own if they're so smart.
"Stand For Marriage" uses copyrighted material in their ads without getting the copyright owners permission (which is called plagiarism, an illegal act) and you think SFM should be given a free pass? But, judging from your post, you're all for SFM so think they should be allowed to use any underhanded means?
As I was saying about irrelevant "strawman" arguments....
I want to marry my dog.....if we divorce, I want to marry someones dog, doesnt matter whos dog, just want to marry one.
"Talk to Massachusetts families"? Okay. Talk to me. My wife and I lived in Massachusetts when same-sex marriage became law and for a few years after. We experienced no change in our lives whatsoever. Our son was in grade school at the time. There was NO CHANGE in his school curriculum. My wife and I just celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary, so our very traditional marriage certainly wasn't harmed a bit, and why should it be? It's OUR marriage, not somebody else's.
I listened to all the arguments against same-sex marriage in Massachussetts. I went to Augusta when they had the hearings for the same-sex marriage bill and listened to both sides for hours. I've listened to all the pro and con arguments that have been offered in the past few months, trying, quite sincerely, to hear one rational argument against same-sex marriage. I haven't.
I have heard a lot of irrelevant "strawman" arguments set up and knocked down by opponents, trying to pretend they are meaningful reasons not to support same-sex marriage. All they have demonstrated to me is a total lack of substance to the opponents' arguments. To date, I never have heard any substantive reason not to support same-sex marriage and plenty of solid reasons to do so.
search this on line to see what is happening in our shcools.

More suits will follow, but all aimed at the YES ON 1 votes. for example, will the people who come to Maine, "on vacation" to answer the phones and get out the vote for homosexual unions have to pay income tax on what they receive, lodging, food, travel, etc.? The ethics commission did not think so or decided that could be approached after the election. Right , but the suit brought earlier will not be decided until after the election, but then probably dropped in any case. lah de dah,
The lawsuit if a complete fabrication brought about by our nonpartisan friends in the AG's office, thank you Janet.
YES ON 1(1Man, 1Woman) wish I had time for that bumper sticker.
They didn't need to use anything from NPR. There are enough facts out there to prove their position. Just talk with parents in Mass. to find out what's being "taught" to their kids.
really, then why did they feel the need to steal NPR's material? Because there are no facts to back their position up.
It is only a matter of time and this whole same sex marriage thing will be prohibited when the silent majority casts their ballots. Next people will want to "marry" their dogs.
I already did. It was wondeful ceremony. We had a dog biscuit cake and got lots of bones for present.
The 'yes' campaign has done everything in their power to instill fear into the voters by whatever outrageous means they can find. They have been dishonest and unethical throughout. I suspect that their crude and underhanded approach has alienated any intelligent person who was once willing to at least listen to their position.
It is bad enough that the 'yes' campaign seeks to deny equality to a group of Americans that has made significant contributions to business, education, medicine, the arts, and any other field that you care to name, including military and religion. The 'yes' campaign has stooped to the depths of stealing NPR content to twist to their own devious ends. It is incomprehensible that supposedly Christian people should engage in such behavior.
The lack of morals is shocking, and the attack on gay citizens is indistinguishable from a hate crime.

Oh really? You mean the same type of parents that belong to "Stand for Marriage" not morals.....Give us a break. The only facts they have are the ones they fabricate. It would truly be laughable if it wasn't so offensive. You know the saying 'with friends like that, who needs enemies'? Well, my new motto is 'with church people like that, who needs churches'. This is why churches are closing and congregations are dwindling. People have had centuries of hate and shame and persecution. This is more of the same.

Really, JST? Really? Then why do you think they aren't using them? This group is going down and going down hard and fast. If they've got a trump up their sleeves, it's damn near time to play it!
WOW, Stand for Marriage (not Morals) is a dirtier organization than I had realized. How did they think they would get away with running that ad without permission from NPR?
I have heard it said 'it's easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission'. That must be their motto, as the ad is already out there and you can't put toothpaste back into the tube.
Stand for Marriage (not morals) plans to win and it doesn't matter what rules, laws or ethics they throw out the window to accomplish their goal.

Actually, Terry, Stand For Marriage was founded and funded as a money laundering arm of the Mormon Church, according to the complaint filed with the Maine Ethics Commission. While the Catholic Diocese is paying Marc Mutty to run the campaign, the Mormons are providing an even greater amount of money than the Catholic church...the poor, broke, closing-community-parishes Catholic Church.... gave $350,000. It's good to have priorities but I would like to know where their money came from. My guess is the Mormons are funneling it through the RCC. Politics does make strange bedfellows, eh?
The tactics of Stand for Marriage do not appear to stand for morals. What hypocrisy. Lie, deceive, steal, hate to name a few.....No thank you, I will stand for what's right.
Why do they need to "digest" NPR's request? This group is truly deplorable.
good one, Jennie. Stand for Marriage Doesn't Stand for Morals. Wish I had time to have a bumper sticker made up!
The Stand for Marriage organization is also under investigation by the Maine Ethics Commission for willfully violating Maine's election transparency laws.
When you are associated with a group where their best efforts involve attempts to decieve and fear monger to trick and/or scare people into voting the way they want, I guess it makes sense that you would want to hide your identifiy... even if doing so is against the law.
Sad and disgusting.
Vote NO on one to protect ALL Maine families and allow ALL Maine churches to worship however they chose!
Thank you NPR. VOTE NO ON 1
